Where does the PDF come from? Is it created by the Database? It's my understanding that runtimes cannot save as PDF due to FileMaker not licensing the technology for them to do so from Adobe.
Yes, the PDF is created by the database. That's bad news for me if I can't create it in the runtime.
This is something that you can test. I know that this is the case for FileMaker 11 runtimes, but haven't investigated this for FMP 12. See if you can select the Save As PDF option from the File Menu.
One, limited, work around is to put a PDF writing utility with your runtime and use it to generate PDF's on Windows Runtimes or using the PDF option when printing to any printer on the Mac OS.
You are correct, its the same situation in Filemaker 12 runtimes (you can't create PDF's). I have found a utilty to create a PDF from the print option and it works, although it's a bit of a pain for the end user, i.e to name the output file and attach it afterwards to the email.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
You might investigate a plug in called fmButler. It offers scripted control of the print dialogs. I don't know if it can be used to automate the rest of the process here or not, but it's worth a closer look if you want to fully automate this process.
