How is your Serial number being assigned? Is it an autoenter serial in the child table?
You probably have allow creation of record on for the portal. The thing that looks like an empty portal row where you can enter data will not have any data in it and therefore no serial number assigned until either you enter data or commit the record.
Ninja - Yes, it is an auto generated serial number in the child table. Unqiue value.
Mr. Vodka - I do have it set on my child table to allow for creation of records. The first row is empty and even when i put data into other fields on the portal row, the serial number field never fills in.
Any other clues?
Do you have the auto-enter serial set to generate on creation or commit?
Seems to me that you have it on commit. Perhaps for your purposes you want it on creation?
I just looked and it's actually already set to creation not commit.
Then perhaps you can explain what the purpose is here. If you have two fields in the portal, as soon as one of those fields has data entered and the field is exited then it should display the ID.
The purpose is is that when i create a new record, the first portal row looks like a blank row.
I have a serial number field in the portal row along with a qty field.
Even if i fill in the qty field on the first portal row, the serial number does not fill in.
Then i can move down to the next portal row and the portal fills in fine.
It's just that first serial number on the first portal line. It does not fill in.
To understand what I mean more clearly try this. Create a new field in the child table and put that field in the portal next to qty. Now enter in something into either qty or teh new field. You will see that as soon as you exit the field it will display the ID.
