So if field B has an "@", you want to replace field A with an "X", and if it doesn't you want to replace field "A" with nothing?
Yea!! Simple!! Sorry!! _i_ got it! With a case() statement. Thanks! But now since _i_ have you online _i_ really stuck trying to eliminate unnecessary characters at the end of my text field.
Let's say this is the end." " (a space after period)
Or this is the end..
Or this is the end.]
And want to use the Text Function called Replace ( text ; start ; number of characters ; replacement text).
Wanting only to end all text with just a period!!
Surely have to use the Right() function in some way with Replace?
Stuck again Thanks
from Wawaka Indiana
Let ( [ Tx = YourTextHere ;
Ln = Length ( Tx )
Left ( Tx ; Position ( Tx ; "." ; Ln ; -1 ) )
) // Let
This returns all text to the left of the last period in your text, including the text. This won't work as written if other punctuation ends the text or if no punctuation ends the text string.
very nice!! Thank you! Can i catch your kind assistance for one more thing? i have a large body of text in Topic field (letters). And want to insert text at the begining from another field FolderName. why isn't the Text Function Replace work? it only insert the symbol "◊" and won't follow to insert the field Replace ( text ; start ; numberOfCharacters ; replacementText ) Replace(DataSOURCE::TOPIC ; 1 ; -1 ; "◊" & DataSOURCE::cabinet1_MainFolders) thanks from Wawaka Indiana why is all my sentences runing together. when i post. it is not like that when i am editing/ typing? rob
Don't see how specifying a negative number of characters makes any sense at all here, but there's a much simpler way:
"◊" & DataSOURCE::cabinet1_MainFolders & DataSOURCE::TOPIC
No functions needed at all, just concatenation operators (&).
