You'll need to describe your layout and script in much more detail. A screen shot of your layout can be uploaded. If you do, take it in layout mode to show more details on how the layout is designed.
To post a script to the forum:
- You can upload a screen shot of your script by using the Upload an Image controls located just below Post A Answer.
- You can print a script to a PDF, open the PDF and then select and copy the script as text from the opened PDF to your clipboard for pasting here.
- If You have FileMaker Advanced, you can generate a database design report and copy the script as text from there.
- If you paste a text form of the script, you can use the Script Pretty box in the Known Bugs List database to paste a version that is single spaced and indented for a more professional and easier to read format. (Use the HTML option on the database tab panel and paste the text into the forum's HTML editor.)
Here is a copy of our "repeat lables" script. when it prints to lablels, this entire name and address prints out correctly. No issue. however, the same database, the same script of a man with a shorter first name, Ross, only Ros (no second s) will print although it shows on the screen. Same database, same script, another client whose last name shows on the screen, it will not print the last letter of his LAST name? Is this a printer issue or a Filemaker issue? We just upgraded from Filemaker 5 to 12. In filemaker 5, we did not have this issue.
And here is a copy of the one that will not print the second S
And this is the one that the last letter of the last name will not print
and this is the Layout in which the information is typed into and what it looks like before we select our Repeat Lables script
and this is what that layout looks like in Find Mode.
here is a picture of that same repeat lables in Layout mode.
A shot of your data entry layout while in find mode doesnt' really tell us anything.
The last screen shot shows why a last name might not print completely.
What I see here is the same set of fields repeated on the layout so that one record prints multiple labels. The grey area indicates that this layout is set to print in two columns.
But anyting to the right of the dashed line won't print. If the name is long enough to extend past the dotted line, it gets clipped and that part won't print.
I would expect that you also don't see any zip codes printing either.
This does not explain why a first name would print incompletely. I see no reason why that would happen.
You mentioned a script. What, besides changing layouts and printing, does it do?
All the Zip codes print. Also, last names that we have that are longer than this clients all print perfectly. It just seems to choose a few that either the first or last name cuts off a letter. No reason as most all print perfectly. We call them scripts but i guess it just a layout. We have an entry field and then 16 different "layouts" of that same entry field depending on what information we need to print, whether is is multiple mailing lables of the same person, reports, etc. This one Layout, is repeat lables that prints in one column, 10 lables on a lable sheet. How it looks on screen is not how it prints out. In prints just like a lable would look.
All the Zip codes print.
Then either you aren't printing from the layout you are showing me or you are using different options in printer set up than what was specified when you captured this screen shot.
What size are your labels?
If you open layout setup for your labels layout and click the printing tab, what options have been specified?
What do you see when you preview this layout? Does it match what you get when you print?
Am I correct that this is FileMaker 11 or older? (Not fileMaker 12)
I am printing from the layout I am showing you. they are normal avery mailing lables 1" X 25/8"
We have a box clicked that tells everything to move to the left when the field is not completely filled
I assure you it is filemaker 12 as we just purchased it and had it installed.
The preview of the layout does NOT match what prints. The second picture I posted, of Ross Sanfilipo's contact information, is what I see on my computer screen in the layout. I have scanned and attached the picture of what it looks like when it actually prints, in the lable format (below) but of course as you see it prints out differently.
As you can see, the Second S is missing in Ross's first name
Ok, I think that explains it. (Didn't know you had fields set to slide left here--which explains how text to the right of the dashed line is printing, but you still could get last letters of long names 'clipped' but I don't think that's the issue here.)
This appears to be another manifestation of a reported bug in FileMaker 12. (The fact that it keeps sliding fields from printing correctly was discovered in another thread.)
If you haven't downloaded the free updater released yesterday, download it and see if the updated version (12.01) fixes this issue. If so, please let me know so that I can update the Known Bugs List accordingly.
If it does not, I suggest modifying the design of the layout to use merge fields instead of regular fields to see if that makes a difference. You might need to use a calcuation field that combines your salutation, and name fields into a single field for use on this layout instead of fields set to slide like this.

This is one of many acknowledged bugs that can be found in the Known Bug List thread here in the Report an Issue section of the forum.
It can also be downloaded as a database file from: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jt09b82i0xijbu3/FMP%20Bugs.zip
I ran the update. It did not work. same issue.
