FMP files from a previous version have been suggested to be the problem.
Especially, if the installer has been redownloaded to help eliminate corrupted download posibility.
Thanks for reply David
Just to clarify, I'm talking about installing FileMaker Pro 12 Client here, not server.
As far as I am aware, FileMaker Pro 11 and FileMaker Pro 12 can co-exist on the same machine - the install instructions don't call for removal of 11 before installing 12 as far as I can see. We don't see the same problem with the FileMaker Pro Advanced 12 installer, so I'm suggesting this may be an installer issue.
Any more ideas?
OK, it was a corrupt file - I redownloaded the link and the installer ran fine.
BUT looks like Windows Server 2008 is not supported as it won't install - but my original extract from the System Requirements implies that it should allow install on that platform.
Input / clarification please from someone at FMI. We upgraded to 12 specifically to run on this platform as a TS client - as we were doing with FMP 11 on the same machine.
You may need to call support at the above "Contact Support" link at top. I understand that they don't usually charge for installation support.
FMI - Please can I have some feedback from FMI - there is a discrepancy between the documentation - which says it CAN be installed on Windows Server 2008 - and reality - which doesn't allow installation.
You will get a much quicker response if you call technical support directly. There is no telling when or if a TS person will respond here in the forum to your post.
OK thanks all.
Here's the answer for any other poor saps struggling with this too:
FMS 12 only works on Windows Server 2008 SP2.
Server was running SP1. SP2 is available as a download but for some reason wasn't automatically downloaded by system updater. I manually downloaded SP2, installed it and FMS 12 then installed fine.
