Problem with Importing names with a comma from Excel to File Maker Pro

Post

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I am using File Maker Pro Advanced version 9.03 on my Mac 10.5.4

I am trying to import records from Excel 12.2.3.

For the most part the import goes fine.  BUT whenever we have a set of names formatted lastname, firstname (example Smith, Joe) when we import those fields into FMP 9 it ends up putting quotes around the names (ie "lastname, firstname").

We've tried formatting the cells in the General format and the Text format.  And we've tried saving the Excel file as a tab deliminated file and as a Windows text file and as a DOS text file.  None of those options seem to help.  We were going to try saving it as a comma separated file but then it would separate the first name from the last name.

Obviously we could do some clean up after the import, but we'd prefer not to have to go through that work.  Any ideas?  Need more info?

Thanks
