Examine the layout while in layout mode.
This layout was designed as a list (not table) view layout. I added a two sub summary layout parts--both "when sorted by" txtCategory. One prints below and one prints above.
apparently, when switching to table view, this results in the "locked" trailing subtotal that you show here.
I just added sub summary in add layout mode, and layout view I can see the sub summary part, while in list view, the sub summary is gone. What causes this ?
A sub summary layout part will not be visible unless the records are sorted in a sort order that includes the '"when sorted by" field specified for the sub summary part.
Oh I see,
Thank you !!
This fact can be a useful tool in setting up one layout to produce a variety of report formats. You can have several sub summary layout parts on your layout and can use sorting to make them appear or disappear as needed.
Example: You could add sub summary parts when sorted by "city" and when sorted by "state". With the same summary field in both layout parts. If you sort by state, you get records grouped by state with a sub-total for each state. If you sort the records on the same layout by city, you get the records grouped by city with sub-totals for each city. If you sort by State, then by city, you get two level grouping and subtotals for both...
Oh I see, in this case I can sort with certain order, to get serveral levels of summary, is that correct?
Yes. The above example might produce a report that looks like if sorted by state, then city:
