The fields on the layout all belong to the table that the layout is based on?
If the title field in one of the records contains the word "george" and you search "george" you get no found records?

FMPA 12.02 on Windows. Yes all the fields on the layout belong to the table they are based on. If I have a book by Edgar Guest and I type Edgar Guest in the quick find it returns nothing. Same for any titles. All fields are set for quick find as is the layout.
So no one has come across this problem before? I noticed that the two fields that don't work are both calculated fields. My title and Author fields. I didn't read where calculated fields could not be included in the qucik find. Could this be a possiblilty?
Are they set to be indexed?
(Though reading the Help about QuickFind now, I don't see any reference to a restriction on unindexed fields.)
