Title

Remote Access to a DB vs shared acces via a network file

Post

I have an database that is currently accessed remotely by 5 users. It is a low volume database with occasional updates and mostly just read access.

I want to put this file on a network share so that everyone can just connect to it directly. This will save me form having to have a dedicated machine that isn't really necessary for such a low volume database.

     1) Will I still get some locking of rows in the unlikely situation where multiple users are updating the same record? If two users are creating data, will Auto-Enter Serial numbers still work correctly?

     2) Am I likely to see performance go up or go down?

     3) Are there any dangers to this method I should be aware of?

     Thanks.
