      Removing Trailing Spaces

      Post

      Hi, without using scripts, how can I remove the trailing spaces in LAYOUT mode.

      i.e. fname,lname results in:  JOHN                 DOE.

      Thank you!

      I TRIED USING 'SLIDE TO LEFT' BUT DID NOT WORK. (I DID THAT ON BOTH FIELDS)

          In layout mode?

          Do you mean that you want to see:

          John Doe?

          If so, select the text tool. Click where you want to place these fields and use Insert Merge Field from the Insert menu to insert these two fields with a spaced added between them.

          You'll see something like:

          <<YourTable::Fname>> <<YourTable::lname>>

          If there are spaces in the actual fields and these are text fields that you need to directly edit, open Manage | Database | Fields, find the fields, double click them and add this auto-enter calculation:

          Trim ( Self )

          And "clear the do not replace existing value..." option.

          Now, each time the field is edited, Trim will remove the trailing spaces from each field.

          To update existing records in one batch, you can use Replace Field Contents with Trim (yourTable::Fname) to remove trailing spaces from the fname field for all records in your current found set.
