Did you import into a number field? What type of file did you import from? If its from Excel, make sure that the formatting in Excel is text first.
So in the future, the excel should be formated as text.... not zipcode and the FMP is formated as number?
But what about after the fact? Is there a way to add a 0 to the front of the numbers currently in the field?
0123 isn't a number.
So, to store correctly that information, you need to change the field from number to text.
1) Isolate records that have the broken zip code
2) Put the curson into the zip field
3) From menu Records >> Replace Field Contents... >> Replace with calculated result: 0 & Zip
If your zipcode field is not a text field, open Manage | Database | Fields and change it's type to text.
Then you can use Replace Field Contents to update the Zips to include a leading zero.
Right ( "0" & table::zipcodefield ; 7 )
is one expression that will add a leading zero on the beginning of the zip if the zip is less than 7 digits long.
Thank you thank you thank you! Can you reccomend a source for learning how to create scripts basics? I havent found any of the FM tutorials have the basic steps to how this works. They are either a vauge overview or written for rocket scientists. Am I missing something?
