Title

Replacing Carriage Returns with something OTHER than Vertical Tab

Post

I'm trying to use a merge file with InDesign, but a few of the fields have carriage returns in them, and when I export to a .mer file, InDesign gives an unhelpful error: "The data source file you selected either has no records or is not a supported file format. Please fix the file, select a file that contains records, or select a supported file type."   When I remove the carriage returns, it exports and InDesign can open it just fine. So I think it has something to do with how Filemaker replaces in-field carriage returns to vertical tabs. Is there a way to tell Filemaker to replace in-field carriage returns with something else? Like '########' or another character? So that I may do a find and replace in Indesign.

The fields which have the carriage return have a lot of text data and it will be hard to read without the carriage returns.

Any help is appreciated, if you need more information, please let me know.
