Nevermind! Got it figured out! Here's what I figured out.
If exporting fields with in-field carriage returns as .mer, you must use a calculation field such as:
Substitute ( MyRealField ; ¶ ; "#####" )
and export it instead of the "real" field.
I am having a similar problem.
I have imported data for a client into a database from Now Contact. They have a notes field which is full of carriage returns (I presume they are CR+LF). When imported, these paragraphs show up as ¶ characters. She wants them to behave like carriage returns again.
I have tried techniques for replacing the ¶ characters with *any* other characters (I used QZX in the examples below), and Filemaker ignores them all.These have included the Replace Field Contents command, and via calculated field, using different equations including:
substitute(testtable::text; "¶" ;"QZX")
substitute(testtable::text; ¶ ;"QZX")
This technique works for me when searching for 'normal' characters. I was also able to do a search and replace in Word successfully.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thank you for your post.
If the field displays paragraphs symbols ("¶"), then use:
Substitute ( Testtable::text ; Char (182) ; "QZX" )
Char (182) is the character representation of the paragraph symbol.
