Replacing SS# without the dashes
I have an employee table that has their ss# as their employee # but want to eliminate the dash; how do I do that in FM? Thank you.
There are two approaches. Each have a formatted SSNum and an unformatted. Which is the input field? WIth dashes or without? Currently you have WITH. So you create a field that is stripped. It is a calculated field: Filter(ss#, "1234567890")
This command leaves only the digits to the field.
Substitute ( SS# ; "-" ; "" )
Thank you so, so much. One more favor, where do I apply that formatting. I went to File/Manage then went to the field in the table and is it somewhere in options? Brand new to Filemaker. Thanks so much for your help.
Filter (SS#, "1234567890") is a second way. But it is not a format, it is a replacement of the contents of the field. You can have a second field that is the StrippedSSNum or do a replacement to the original field.
Thank you much but I still need a little help I am brand new at this so please bear with me. So create a third field to the employee_table, this would be a calculated field and in the calculation it reads "StrippedSSNo" the field name? So far I'm not doing it correctly. Thanks so much!
Thank you ever so much! I so appreciate your help; worked great!
