Report of multiple different tables arranged by date

      Post

I have a filemaker pro 12 database for a veterinary clinic.

Each client has multiple animals, each animal has multiple visits, prescriptions, communications.

For each animal, I would like to create a report or list that can be saved as a PDF to show all items from all of these tables, but arrange them by date so they are in the order each happened.  Is there a way to do this?

           Thanks.

Yes, but the approach used can be very different depending on how you have linked these tables in relationships.

Generally speaking, if you have a series of related tables that form a single chain of one to many relationships:

               Table1----<Table2---<Table3

Then you can get good results with a summary report based on the lowest level "many" table (Table3) with fields from the "upper" tables added in header, grand summary, sub summary and footer layout parts.

But other relationships may require a lot more effort to produce acceptable results (or they may also be easy to do).

So we'll need a more detailed look at your relationships before we can provide a more detailed answer.

Thank you for your reply.  Can you give an example of what the fields would need to look like for a given situation?  Or what information would you need about the relationships to help with this information?

Each animal has multiple communication entries with different dates in one linked table, multiple visit entries with different dates in another linked table, multiple prescriptions with different dates in another linked table.  I would like these entries to all be in one report in order by date.

Listing your tables and how they are related would be a good start. The match fields used and whether a given relationship is one to many or some other type can be critical.

One way is to capture a screenshot of the relevant portion of Manage | Database | Relationships and use the controls located below the Post A Answer box to upload the screen shot to the forum. (Make sure your file type is one of the types listed next to the controls.)

Then listing an example "outline" of what info you want to present in your report would also be good.

But then what do you need in your report. And from which of the above table occurrences is that data found?

                       To repeat:

Then listing an example "outline" of what info you want to present in your report would also be good.
