Try replacing the date string with a Filemaker date:
if (InvoiceDate > Date (11,30,2008) , subtotal / 100 * 15 , subtotal /100 * 17.5)
Thanks smaros that worked a treat! Now if only I could find the time to learn/update filemaker, life would be so much better. I downloaded version 9 which tried to convert the 38 linked databases and kept crashing trying to load the converted files, so a rewrite will be required. 20 years of diving did not prepare me for this!
Thank you for your posts, and "Thank you" to "smaros" for the calculation!
Since all 38 of your database files are linked, convert the least significant files first. That way, when the file converts and opens, it won't be looking for any other files. For example, if SALESORDER links to INVENTORY, convert INVENTORY first. Then, when you convert SALESORDER, it will look for INVENTORY and see it is already converted. Does that make sense?
If you find any files that crash upon opening, then please let me know, and I'll work with you to get everything working as it did in FileMaker Pro 6.
Thanks for the offer to help going from FM Pro 6 to FM Pro 9. I already tried as you suggested and even created a complete copy with minimulm records in for testing. On checking some old notes of my uncle he tried with to upgrade to FM Pro 7 when it came out snd there were problems with some of the techniques used to provide drop down lists-sub lists etc (client - multiple contacts etc) which stopped working and filemaker support advised taking advantage of the new Database/file multiple tables stystem. As the web becomes more central to our working methods/systems, I will try to find the time to learn enough about FM Pro 9. Most reusable data, customer details etc can be imported/exported into a new system, FM Pro 6 seems to run okay at the same time as FM Pro 9 (on the same computer,) which will allow me until Apr 09 (new financial year start) to learn, build and test a new system (with help from this forum)!
Thanks in advance
Export the records to excell, convert, import. I only have 6 linked data bases and when we converted to 8 it was a serious issue. Crashes, corrupt data. It will show you examples when you go to import. Or clone but I think you already did that. It will take some time but from I hear 9 is well worth it.
