Runtime apps from Filemaker Pro 11 Advanced
Just wondering if the Runtime apps I make in Filemaker Pro 11 Advanced for Mac will run on Windows. If not, is there a way to make that happen?
They will not, but if you take your solution file(s) from the Mac and put it on a windows machine with FileMaker Advanced installed on it, you can then bind the same files into a windows solution.
For serious development of cross platform solutions, you really need access to both machines.
There are significant adjustments you may need to make to your layout design before the same layouts you created on the Mac look right on a windows machine. This is because windows machines require a bit more width and height to display the same text, so text that looks correct on a mac may be clipped or wrapped in undesirable ways on the windows platform. Thus, it's often better to design cross platform layouts on the windows platform first.
Thanks for the tip, Phil. Being a Mac user at home (where I do most of my academic work) and a PC user at the office, I developed my database at home. Oh dear!
I develop on the Mac. When it's finished I do a 'correction session' on Windows. As shortly as possible.
Sorry if the answer is obvious but trying this out, I came across a problem. I cannot load my Filemaker Advanced (downloaded onto my Mac when I bought it) onto the PC. Now previously (FM7), I used the same CD to load onto both. Is this a feature of the FM11, namely, do you have to buy the software separately for each platform?
You should have received download links for both installers. I believe that you can contact customer service and get the download link for the windows version sent to you if you show proof of purchase for getting Filemaker advanced in the first place.
