saved characters in authentication dialog box

For some reason, all of a sudden on one particular machine, when the user tries to log in to the Filemaker Pro database (a database that is shared among 9 others using Filemaker Pro 9 Server), the authentication box pops up and asks for his credentials. However, there is a single space in the "username" field. And if he does not remember to hit the delete button, authentication fails (as it should). My question is this; How do I keep Filemaker from remembering that space? Is this a Filemaker issue or a Windows XP (SP3) issue? Despite our efforts to have Filemaker "remember" the correct username and have that automatically entered when he goes to "Open remote", instead that stupid space is inserted every time and he often does not realize that it is there. Is this a Filemaker issue or a Windows XP issue? Any resolution or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!
