Script for backing up and restoring all records in all tables
It looks as though I am ready to start testing my solution so from here on out I am planning on inputting real data as opposed to the made-up test data I've been using. Since I am using real data, I would like to keep a backup of it for two reasons, the first is obvious, I would like a backup of all of the records if something should go wrong. The second one may be the tricky one. I want to be able to export or backup all records from all tables in a stand alone solution so I am able to make updates and changes to the Filemaker file, re-create the stand alone solution and then import the records into the updated stand alone version. Ultimately, I would like to include a menu for backing up and restoring records to allow the users of the solution to backup and restore as well.
Is this something that is possible with FM Pro 10 Advanced?
Well, the simplest approach is simply use "save a copy as" to save copies of your database periodically. That's what I do every so often during the development cycle. You can import all the data from such a copy using Import records and can use the matching field names option to quickly and easily map the fields. This can also be scripted.
