Script freezing me out of file
Hello, I screwed up a script and now it locks up when I open my file. Can I open a file without scripts enabled or is there a better way around this? Thanks.
If you have FileMaker Pro Advanced, you can use Script Debugger as you are opening your file, and cancel out of the script.
If you don't, I'm not sure if there is a way.
I don't have advanced. Anyone know?
How is the script freezing you out?
If it's trapped in an infinite loop and it does not block user aborts, you can press esc in windows or command period on macs to halt the script.
In other cases, you may need to sneak into the file from a different FileMaker file:
Create a new FileMaker file. Set up a script in this new file that uses Perform Script to perform a file script in the original file. Select some other script that won't lock you out as the script to be performed. Perform your new script and then select the original file from the Window menu if it does not pop to the front automatically when your selected script in that file executes.
Well, I have the attached and then I thought, hmm, I want to open this layout (using the button with script) in a separate window. The script worked fine until I added that option at the bottom.
You're a life saver. Command + period worked. Time Machine saved an hour before but I did a ton of work in an hour. Thanks.
So how do I set this up to open in new window? The option is there for Go To Related Record but not for Go To Layout. I want to open that layout in a new window. Thanks.
Use both steps:
Go To Layout
And keep in mind that all your script steps will interact with your new window unless you use select window to activate a different window.
