What exactly are you trying to do? For example, does the list include all performers, and you want to select the name 'Aaron' from a pop-up list, and it will go to the 'Aaron' record on the list?
In other words, what is the logical connection between what you are selecting, and the record you want to go to?
What I would like to do is have a layout full of buttons, one per performer that will directly link to that performers record in the performers layout. So when you click on the "aaron" button you are taken from the current layout you are in and taken to the Performer Layout and to Arron's record.
The drop down list would work as well but for ease of use I would prefer scripted buttons.
It's your choice, but a layout full of buttons sounds like a bit of...a ... nightmare. I thought you had an awful lot of performers.
Create a global field gPerformerIDToSearch. Create a relationship using that field to the Performers Table, matching the Performer's ID.
Create one script:
Set Field (gPerformerIDToSearch ; Get ( ScriptParameter )
Go to Related Record [Show only this record's related records, by that relationship you just defined)
Go to Layout (choose the layout you want to see, although you can choose this in the previous step also)
Attach that script to each of the buttons, and make the button's script parameter the name you want to see.
You could also (instead, that is) create a script:
Go to Layout (where the performer is)
Enter Find Mode
Set Field [PerformerID ; Get ( Script Parameter )
I had tried the find idea but had missed the perform find step.
I know it sounds like a beast of a thing but It seems to work well for what we have to do.
Thanks for all your help.
