      Script Triggering

      Post

I am trying to get FileMaker Pro 11 to trigger a script at the same time each day, to send out an email. Have the script sending the email just can't find a way to automatically trigger it at a specific time everyday.  Is it at all possible?

          Hi Mick --

You can certainly do this with FM Server.  Are you using Server?  If so, you just create a script in your FMP database to do what you want (the Send Mail script step is Server compatible -- so just set up your mail with hard coded values, or based on record data with calculations, in the Send Mail dialog box as you create the script), then set up a Schedule on FM Server to run the mail script you create once a day at a particular time, etc. (all of the setup happens in the Schedule Assistant dialog on Server).

HINT: When creating your mail script in your database, be sure to pull down the Show Compatibility menu in the lower left of ScriptMaker and select Server so that steps that are not compatible with server side scripting are greyed out (they will not run from the server, so don't go usin' them).

The server scheduled script requires SMTP emailing. There is a bug with that method that can cause your recipients systems to fliter out the email as junk email. If you want to do the same from your email client to avoid this bug, you can do so with a robot file that sends out the emails on a schedule but from a client session of the database rather than the server.

If you want to know more about the SMTP email bug see:    Email header malformed when using SendMail

This is one of many acknowledged bugs that can be found in the Known Bug List here in the Report an Issue section of the forum.

It can also be downloaded as a database file from:   http://www.4shared.com/file/8orL8apk/FMP_Bugs.html
