Hi there, what your asking can be easily accomplished with variables. In this case you need to set a local variable that is with one $.
In scripting section you'll after selecting the set variable...
-Double click to open the options
(Value) click on Specify and select field you want to capture
(Repition) Don't worry about it .
Depending on where you want to use the variable lets say in a calculation of an email...it would be
"Dear "& $first & etc.....
Hope this helps.
Here's a demo file of this method that you can examine and use: http://www.4shared.com/file/Z36UjVOL/MessageTemplateBuilder.html
The messages are created in calculation fields, but the calculation expressions can be used in the body of your send mail dialog to make this method work with emails.
Jay, thanks for the answer, I will try this out.
Phil, thanks for making the demo...it appears as though it was deleted though.
That link to the sample from Phil ...looks like the answer you needed....Bingo! I'll be using it to.
