Setting Dates at the x-axis on a chart?

I have this table where each contact gets a score number at some given dates (but not all). I 'd like to visualise this at a chart, having time (dates) at the x-axis and the relevant score at the y axis. When i set up a scatter plot, the problem is two fold : 1. the available date formats for the axis all include days (dd), which makes the x-axis not easily readable. I 'd like to see them in a format mm/yy (only 2 digits for a year), sorted chronologically in a linear fashion. The second problem is that i can't figure out how to set up the grids at the x-axis to show only i.e. every month or every 2 months. Even when using the ticks option, the software seems to divide the date period and set the ticks accordingly. How could i set it to only show i.e. 1 grid at the begining of each month (i.e. 1/1/2014, 1/2/2014, 1/3/2014, etc -its european calendar)
