If it always has the same value and this value never changes, why do you need the field?
I would like to avoid retyping the same name for 400 records and retyping them for every import to the database.
Yes, but if the field has the same value in every record and never changes, you don't need to define a field for that unless you have specific needs that require it. You can simply type that text onto your layout as layout text to show it for every record or you can define a global field and put the data once into that global field and put it where you need it.
But if there are times where the text might need to be modified in the future for certain records, there are ways to set up a field with an auto-enter calculation combined with using Replace field contents to update your existing records to put this text into a field of every record.
Hello I have a problem that is similar but not exactly the same (I can't seem to post a new question so I have to piggyback here!)
I would like to set up a field where, if I enter 'x' in the first field, the letter 'A' will automatically be entered in the second field. I haven't found a simple way to do this. It's only one keystroke but in the long term the automatic entry could save me a lot of time!
