      Simple Question about fields

      Post

      Hi there,

I´m new to Filemaker and I have one question about fields. First, excuse my english because is not good.

I want to create a gif button.

When one user click on this button FileMaker insert three fields:

      1) Automatic Date

      2) A text Field (user can write)

      2) Text Field (user can write)

If user click again in GIF button, FileMaker insert again the same three fields below the first one.

Anybody can help about how can I do it?

      I use FileMaker 9 on a Mac

      Thanks.

"I want to create a gif button."

What do you mean by a "gif" button? A button that displays a graphic image from a gif file?

"When one user click on this button FileMaker insert three fields:

          1) Automatic Date

          2) A text Field (user can write)

          2) Text Field (user can write)"

Instead of inserting "fields" lets create a new record each time the button is clicked. If we display the records in a portal below the button, the user will see what you describe.

You'll need two tables MainTable and ChildTable. MainTable will store your records with the "gif" button and ChildTable will store the three fields you describe.

I'll ignore the "gif" part of your request until I hear back from you on what you want. We can add that in later.

          Define one field in MainTable:

ID (Make it a number field. Set its auto-enter field option to enter a serial number.)

          Define Four fields in ChildTable:

id (Make it a number field)

Date (Make it a date field. Set its auto-enter option to enter the creation date.)

Field1 (Make it a text field)

          Field2 (text)

Define a relationship linking the tables:

          MainTable::ID---=---ChildTable::id

Double click the "=" box and select the "Allow creation of records in this table via this relationship option" check box for ChildTable.

Click Ok buttons as needed to leave Manage | Database.

Select your MainTable layout and enter layout mode.

Use the Portal tool to create a portal.

Specify "ChildTable" in the "Show Related Records from" menu of the Portal Setup dialog.

Set other portal options as needed.

          Click Ok

Specify the Date, Field1 and Field2 fields for your portal in the Specify FIelds dialog that now appear.

          Enter Browse Mode

Each time your user types text into either Field1 or Field2, you'll see today's date automatically appear in the Date field. Users can add as many records as needed just by typing in the first blank row in the portal, no button required.
