The simplest approach, if you can do it, is to set up your iPhone, iPad and Macbook as clients of the same hosted database. Then data changes made by any of these devices will all modify the same shared set of files. If this is all within your medical offices, you might set up a WiFi network for this purpose.
Thanks for the advice, PhilModJunk. Can I only access the db from my mobile devices if they're on the same Wifi network? I keep my Macbook at home and use my phone/iPad in the hospital. I have 3G and Wifi access at work. Is there a way to access the files while at work? Do I have to have Filemaker Pro up and running to do this or can I host the file on Dropbox or something like that ...
I described what I understand is the set up with the best response times. If you set up a server for this, you can use your laptop from home to access it via Wide Area Network and you can use WiFi or 3G for your iPhone and iPad to connect to it. Both WAN and 3G will be slower and you may expreience drops with 3G.
You may want to click over to the Filemaker Go section and raise these points there to get a more techincially oriented discussion of the options for linking either device to a FileMaker Host computer.
thanks a lot.
