Are you asking how to sort or are you saying that sorting is not producing the expected results?
If asking how to sort there is a Sort Button on the Status Toolbar or you can select Sort Records from the Records menu.
On the other hand if you are getting unexpected results, such as when you sort you get:
Then you need to double check the field type is set to Number instead of Text. A field set to Text will produce the results above while a field set to number and sorted descending will produce:
To check the Field type
- Open the File Menu
- Select Manage
- Select Database
- Ensure you are on the Fields Tab in the Manage Database Box
- Select the row for that field name and check the Type option (lower right)
Dear Mark Sir,
Thanks for the response!!
Here i already set that "Amount" field type as "Number"(see Image1). Image2 represents the output for that sorted Numbers, it was improper order, isn't it!! But is there for 'Alphabet Sorting' type only contains Ascending & Descending orders?!!
But on Result, I could not get the Expected :( is there any other way it has to sort these numbers as Sorting order? Please help me sir!!
In order to get the Image2 you must have sorted the expense records (by category, presumably). You can add more sort criteria to that Sort. If you sort it by Category and Amount, and click the 'Amount' field and then click 'Descending' in the Sort Dialogue it will show as you expect.
(By the way, I would change the field name 'Date' to be something else, as I think you will not be able to use it in future calculations.)
sorting by project and Category as well as amount is probably the cause of this issue. We cannot see the values of project or category in your screen shots to see if they are or are not the reason for these results.
But I am puzzled by the appearance of "lock" symbols and the additional text in your screen shot. I don't see any way in my copy of FileMaker to reproduce that.
