      Sorting field contents alphabetically

      Post

      Hallo

hope someone might be able to assist :) using filemaker pro 10.

I would like to know, if it is possible to sort the contents of a field alphabetically after values have been entered? would prefer to do this via a script (so that it can be repeated if new names are added at any point) but cant seem to crack the problem.

field contents looks something like this e.g.

      Andromeda polifolia

      Festuca arundinacea

      Nymphaea alba

      Pedicularis sylvatica subsp. sylvatica

      Zostera angustifolia

      Anagallis arvensis

      Tripleurospermum maritimum

      Juncus articulatus

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help....

While it's possible, recreating a sort algorhithm in a FileMaker script when you could just ask FileMaker to sort the values for you would seem to be a lot of unecessary work.

If you were to load the words in separate records of a related table, the relationship between the two tables can be defined to sort your related records in ascending order.

Then this calculation field in your parent record: Substitute ( List ( RelatedTable::Name ) ; ¶ ; " " ) would return your list of words in alphabetical order.
