Stop mouse scroller from moving through records
Is there a way to not have the scroller on the mouse move through the records? I just want the mouse scroller to move up and down the scroll bar and not have it scroll through the records.
I fail to understand. What else would you have the scroll bar do exactly? I assume you are in List View.
I attached a picture. Right now the scroll bar on the right side won't scroll if you move up or down on the mouse wheel. If you scroll up/down on the mouse wheel it moves to the very next record.
Sorry but that's how FileMaker was designed to work. We don't have the option of specifying what part of our layout will scroll when the scroll wheel turns. You can keep from flipping or scrolling to the next window when the scroll wheel is turned by isolating the layout's current record, but I know of no way to get the scroll bar to scroll a field or portal instead of the current layout's found set.
No, it is not.
Where is the cursor or mouse pointer when you do this?
If the cursor is over the body of the layout the body should scroll.
If the cursor is over the "records" section of the header, you will scroll through records.
Yet the poster wants to scroll a field or portal, neither item is on your list.
On a form view layout in WIndows 7 with the cursor over the body of the layout, scrolling the wheel flips me through different records of the found set. If I move the cursor over the status toolbar area, nothing scrolls and it doesn't matter if cursor is over the "records" section or not. In neither case does the window scroll. It's my understanding that this may not be the case in Mac systems.
I find the same as the OP and Phil, and have thought often how convenient it would be if I could scroll down a particularly long (tall) layout and stay on the same record, without having to manipulate the scroll bar.
It does work this way in layout mode.
Yes, it is unfortunate that this Windows-specific problem exists and seems unsolvable.
