Filemaker has no built-in ability to do this. A couple of options come to mind:
1. Do this in two stages: produce your detailed report first, then produce a summary-only report (with no body part) and append it to the detailed report.
2. Run a looping script (or a custom function) to produce the summaries in a field.
Ok, then I would like to create a looping script.
I think I can do it this way:
add 10 global text fields ---> Artist1 thru Artist10
add 10 global number fields ---> Artist1Total thru Artist10Total
Write a script that starts at the first record, puts the contents of the ARTIST field into ARTIST1, and adds "+1" to ARTIST1TOTAL.
Go to next record
If contents of ARTIST = ARTIST1, then +1 into ARTIST1TOTAL
If contents of ARTIST not equal ARTIST1, then put the contents of the ARTIST field into ARTIST2, and adds "+1" to ARTIST2TOTAL.
Then I could display the global fields in the Trailing Grand Summary.
Is there some sort of script function that looks to see if the content of a field is unique compared to another field? this would make the script quite a bit shorter I'd think.
thanks in advance
This is genius. Thanks!
.... After analyzing the script, it seems to have a custom function: Currency (number).
Any thoughts on the definition of this?
