# Sum of values from a check box set.

### Title

Sum of values from a check box set.

### Post

Hello.

I am new to DB and FM pro. I am trying to insert in my DB risk scores for cardiovascular disease. The best way would be with a set of check boxes containing risk factors (let's say: hypertension, smoking, etc.). I need to assign a value (mostly positive, like 1 or 2 points, but eventually negative like -3) for each risk factor (box), an then create a field containing the result, wich is the sum of all numbers corresponding to the checked boxes.

Can anyone help me with this?

Best regards

Which are presently the values of your value list ?

• ###### 2. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

For the score in question, all variables should correspond to 1.

• ###### 3. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

Didn't you say that sometimes a value con be 2 or even negative ?

• ###### 4. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

BTW try:

Evaluate ( Substitute ( YourCheckBox ; ¶ ; " + " ) )

• ###### 5. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

Yes, some scores are made with the sum of positive and negative values. For the score I'm working on right now, only positive (1) values. But I guess there is a way to do it, regardless of the number.

Can you help me?

See my previous post

• ###### 7. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

Just did. Got the "?" sign. I guess it has to do with the "specify field" settings of the check box field itself. Shouldn't I specify the values (1 or some other) somewhere ther?

Please, tell me how many fields, formatted as checkbox, do you have on your table.

If they are more than one, the calculation will be:

Evaluate ( Substitute ( List ( check1 ; check2 ; check3 ; check4 ) ; ¶ ; " + " ) )

A single field, using a value list (risck factor A, risk factor B).

• ###### 10. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

... and the corresponding values ?

• ###### 11. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

Age ≥ 65 years

Aspirin in < 7 days

≥ 2 episodes of angina

≥ 0.5 mm ST deviation

+ cardiac markers

≥ 3 risk factor for CAD

• ###### 12. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

Are those the values of your value list ?

Can you see 7 checkboxes ?

• ###### 13. Re: Sum of values from a check box set.

I need the text to be beside the box. Where should I put the corresponding numerical value (1 for each, in this case)?

Sorry. I didn't see your last question.

Yes, I can see 7 check boxes.
