When you refer to a summary field from a related table, the summary table shown in the summary field will be based on the set of related records accessible from the current record on your current layout's table.
Given the complex chain of relationships between MainMenu and Fleet, it would seem very problematic that you'll be able to get the total that you want from the current Fleet table occurrence.
I recommend adding an additional table occurrence of Fleet and linking it directly to Main menu and then referring to the summary field via this added table occurrence.
Hi Phil -
Would you do MainMenu_PK ----------< Fleet_k or what. I played with a second occurrence and could not get it to work either...
What kind of total do you want? On what set of related records in Fleet should you use to get your value?
If you want it based on all records in Fleet, use the X operator in your relationship to match to all records.
I setup FLEET2:Fleet_PK ------< MainMenu:fleet_k and changed it to an "x" relationship. I am still getting nothing. Any suggestions...?
are you sure that you are referring to a summary field from Fleet2 and not some other occurrence of Fleet?
If you put a portal to fleet 2 on your Main Menu layout as a test, what do you see in the portal?
I don't know what the issue was, but I rebooted and started up again and it seems to work just fine all of a sudden. Sorry to waste your time but I have it resolved. Your advice worked the first time, but it just would not register for some reason!
