And that is how summary fields are designed to work. Any calculation field or summary field that refers to related records will not reflect the effect of any portal filter--with one exception. As you have already discovered, a summary field placed insided the filtered portal will display a value based only on those related records that meet the filter's requirements.
The solution, in most cases, is to make a copy of your portal and reduce the copied portal to just one portal row and then place your summary field inside this single portal row. You can change the appearance settings of this portal to make it invisible and then your summary field looks like any other field on the layout, but now returns a filter based aggregate value.

Hi I have two summary totals within a one row portal that is filter to give me a filtered total. It works fine in FileMaker Pro 12 but when I view it on the IPad with Filemaker Go 12 the totals are not displayed, the fields are blank.
