Filemaker insists on displaying all the individual records for each summary category if they are in the found set
Technically, that's not quite the case. By deleting the body part, you can create a summary report that does not display any individual records, just totals and subtotals.
But I fully understand that this is not what you need here.
Is this effect needed only for printed or PDF documents produced from this layout?
If so, you can define calculation fields to use in place of each field in the body. Use IF or Case functions to return null if the record is a previous record and top return the value of one of these fields if it is not a previous record. Then place these fields in the body in place of your original fields and use sliding and visibility settings in the Inspector to set them to slide up and to reduce the enclosing part.
Dear PhilModJunk and Others,
Thank you so much for your help. That did indeed do the trick. Now, I have got left to hide the labels in case of empty fields.
I found one approach here but that does not trigger the sliding function (which actually exists for labels).
Do you know a way to trigger the sliding function of labels?
Thank you so much.
Replace the labels with calcualtion fields that return the label text for current records and null for previous records.
You can also place the labels above teh fields in the sub summary part and use conditional formatting to hide them for Previous records. This does not remove the unused space, however.
Yes, that worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
