      Switched email from Eudora to Outlook

      Post

      I recently un-installed Eudora on my computer running Windows XP in order to switch to Outlook. I did this after upgrading from Filemaker 6 to Filemaker 11. Now my email scripts no longer function. I get an error indicating that Eudora can not be launched. Then I get an UNKNOWN error message.

      I did a complete uninstall on Eudora then did a restart. Next I ran PC Matic to clean the registry and did a restart but I still get this error.

      Can you tell me what I need to fix to get Filemaker to recognize Outlook as my default email client? I did set it as default in all the Windows places.  Thanks.

          Use an app like wordpad to open your windows.ini file.

          See if it reads like this:

          [Mail]
          MAPI=1
          CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
          CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll
          CMC=1
          MAPIX=1
          MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
          OLEMessaging=1

            The Win.ini file looks like this:

            ; for 16-bit app support
            [fonts]
            [extensions]
            [mci extensions]
            [files]
            [Mail]
            MAPI=1
            CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
            CMC=1
            MAPIX=1
            MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1

              Which would appear to my inexpert eyes to be correct. What happens sometimes is that people install a new email client, then uninstall the old. This can leave the ini or registry missing data removed during the uninstall that both clients needed. Uninstalling and re-installing the new email client then fixes the issue.

                Unfortuantely I don't have the disk to re-install. It came with the computer and I never made the back up (like a fool.) Can you think of any other possible solutions?

                  What I meant was to un-install and re-install Outlook. You do not have an installer for that?

                    No I don't. It came pre-installed on this computer and I did not get any disks with it. There were instructions to make back up disks that I ignored thinking I could do that later -- no you can't -- So I don't have a way to re-install Outlook.
