Syntax for calculated field with null value

How can I write a formula that evaluates whether the value in a field is null?  Thank you for suggestions!

I am trying to combine the values in text fields into a new text field for an envelope label. For example, if Joe and Mary have the same last name, I want the result in the envelope label text field to be "Joe and Mary Smith." If the two last names are different I want the result to be "Joe Smith and Mary Jackson." If Joe doesn't have a partner at all,  I just want the result in the envelope label to read "Joe Smith."

I am having trouble figuring out how to get Filemaker pro to evaluate if the Partner Last Name field is not null so I don't end up withthe result "Joe Smith and"

      If ( Name_Last = PartnerLName and PartnerLName IS NOT NULL; Name_First & "and  " &PartnerFName& " "  & Name_Last ; Name_First & " "  & Name_Last& " " & "and " & PartnerFName & " "  & PartnerLName)

Can anyone help me with the syntax for "IS NOT NULL" in the formula above?
