The data can be exported as a merge file (mer, I think), then in Word a document can insert the fields in the merge document for printing
Or you can create a layout with 3 or 7 text fields that are concantenated with the <<data field>> 's to be printed.

How to use mail merge to create form letters in Word
Why can't you just print/save as PDF from this "preview area" layout?
When you do it this way it shows the item as displayed which is not what I was wanting (this layout is a preview for the user so they can check items which will be added to the final letter).
I'd prefer to create another layout, take the values from this layout and place them in the new layout and then print it as a PDF. How can I do this?
Since you have merge fields, you should be able to set up a layout to do exactly that within the limits of what Filemaker can do. But without knowing the design of your database and what result you want to see on the screen/printed page, it's impossible to go into detail on how to do that.
