      Trouble entering the date

We have a "date entered" field in our form. It's used to tell us when a record was created.

However, every time we try to enter a date, no matter the format, we get the following error message:

“Date Entered” is defined to contain existing values only. Add this new value to the existing values?

And on our Instant-Web-Published format, it's a more generic error:

An existing value is required in field "Date Entered."

It won't allow the user to enter a date at all. Where is the setting for that in my layout editor? Is there any way to turn it off?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Why are you trying to enter a date in a field that should automatically enter today's date each time the record is created?

In  any case, if you open Manage | Database | Fields and double click the field definition for this field, you'll open up field options. Click the validation tab and clear the check box labeled "existing values" and you'll no longer get this validation error message.

Ah. Thanks for two excellent tips. New to all of this. Didn't realize you could auto-enter. Now I see there's a tab for that. Also, found that hidden checkbox. Perfect!
