Trouble with Picture References (FM Pro 9)

      Post

      Hello,

I still didn't manage to find a solution to following problem, this is driving me crazy:

I have pictures stored as a reference in a container field.

They are located at different folders at a server. Now, if the connection to the server

is broken and recovered again, Filemaker seems to lose the path of the pictures and seems not to be able to find them. Also, there is trouble

of viewing them at different PCs in the local network area.

One solution is to locate the pictures in the same folder next to the data base which isn't the one I'm looking for.

      I appreciate any help.

      Thanks, Chris

This should be a common problem. Any ideas?

You have created a simple test database to test...

And the test was.. successful?... same results??... incunclusive???

You have references in a FMP database.

You have a local or network hardrive [H:} or [Mac HD]

NOTE: this HD has to be mounted to be accessed.

(this seems to be dweebish, but god bless the clusless, you gotta have access to have access)

You have a directory or folder [Images] or [Images]

You have a subdirectory or subfolder [images/subfolder]

You have a filename that is in the subfolder in the subfolder in the HD

            filewin::HDname\foldername\foldername\filename.ext

[[this is so sub obvious that I hesitate]]

You can create a calculated contantenated file path with

[Field] HD and [Field] SubDirectory or SubFolder and ETC ....ETC

              Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I created a test database which basically indicated that the problem occurs when the server disconnects.

So your solution (if I understand correctly) means I load the pictures by calculation. But the idea was that the user would

be able to include pictures himself from diverse locations (the pictures will be all over the place).
