Don't see any "box" on the contacts layout. What I DO see is a list view of records and a drop down for sorting the records on different fields and where the rows of data listed in the body are set up as buttons that change layouts when clicked.
Can't spot any search function other than the standard quick find box or selecting find mode from the view menu.
Sorry, I was a bit unclear on which portion I was referring to, the person who hacked together our temporary database didn't inform me they removed/renamed layouts from the template "Contacts." In order to see this search box, you have to change layouts to "Contacts | iPad" in the template. The box in the template performs as expected across FM12 and FM:Go, obviously, but gives me the same results I mentioned in my first post across both FM12 and FM:Go.
I think you need to post the script that is being performed when you enter data into this field. In the template, a script trigger on this field performs a script that does a quick find using the data entered into this field.
What I noticed, is that if error code 400--no criteria specified, is returned by the quick find, the script finds all records, so it sounds like your script is not referring to the field placed on your table for use with this script.
To post a script to the forum:
- You can upload a screen shot of your script by using the Upload an Image controls located just below Post A Answer.
- You can print a script to a PDF, open the PDF and then select and copy the script as text from the opened PDF to your clipboard for pasting here.
- If You have FileMaker Advanced, you can generate a database design report and copy the script as text from there.
- If you paste a text form of the script, you can use the Script Pretty box in the Known Bugs List database to paste a version that is single spaced and indented for a more professional and easier to read format. (Use the HTML option on the database tab panel and paste the text into the forum's HTML editor.)
Ok, here's the QuickFind script, it's a global search as far as I understand how it's supposed to work. It ought to be looking for matches across -all- fields. I could be very wrong though.
Here's the script for the Sort Contact List portion.
Both scripts have problems.
Note the /* comment brackets */ that enclose different expressions in both steps.
In your first script, Perform Quick Find [/*Better DB WIP::QuickFind*/]
means that no field is specified for this script step as the one listed is enclosed in comment brackets. You'll need to remove those brackets and then check your layout to see what field is being used for your "search box" and put a reference to it inside this script step.
Oh wow, I can't tell you how long I stared at that and didn't even notice either of those. Everything else -was- correct, and now it works as expected! Thanks a a bunch, I must say your prompt responses have impressed!
I don't code, so this hang up was really driving me nuts!
