Two versions of Filemaker Pro on same machine
I am currently using Filemaker Pro 10 on a Mac running OSX Snow Leopard. Is it possible to have both Filemaker Pro 10 and 11 installed on the same machine?
Is it desirable to retain all previous versions on the same machine after upgrading or just the immediate past version or is there no point at all?
Upgrade will install a new version on your computer, the old ones will still retain.
It depends on what you are doing with them. If you are a developer, it's not a bad idea to keep previous versions around for testing purposes. You never know if you'll get a customer that has FM 6 and can't afford to upgrade yet.
If you are casual user, you may not need them installed. But I would still at least keep the discs around.
I would go one step further and say that for the average user or your end users, uninstall the previous versions. This will eliminate opening the files in the wrong version if the developer hasnt properly trapped for a specific version.
For the developer though, I agree with Josh that it is beneficial to perform testing, developing, etc.
