why do you need to?
The iPod camera can be used with the Insert From Device script step to scan the Barcode with no need for added hardware.
I use my iPhone to scan barcodes for a semi-experimental shopping DB nearly every day.
It works better having an external barcode scanner, works a lot faster than using the iPod camera. Would you have information on how to integrate an external barcode scanner device to filemaker?
Hi, I was looking for the same information and came across this link.
I have not tested this yet, but according to the documentation you should be able to use it with captuvo sl22 and fm Go.
I will test it this week.
For a dedicated hardware barcode scanner to be useful with FileMaker Go, it must be able to connect to your iOS device over Bluetooth like a keyboard. It looks like the Honeywell Captuvo SL22 doesn't work this way, instead connecting through the iPod's dock connector and requiring a Honeywell SDK be used in a supporting iOS app. There are some combinations of app and hardware where it is possible to interact with FileMaker Go via custom URL schemes, but the handoff between the apps will slow you down, completely removing the speed advantage with the added costs of the hardware and extra solution complexity. If you have your heart set on using a hardware barcode scanner, Zero Blue offers a number of scanners known to work reasonably well with FileMaker Go.
Jeremy, Thanks for the info. I will have a look at these scanners as well. I already purchased a captuvo, so I will test it to see how it performs.
Did you have any luck with the Captuvo and FileMaker Go? The Honeywell sled has a great reader!
