To get them to print the same way, you'd need both a page and title header that are the same height. Otherwise the printable area on subsequent pages will differ from page one.
When you select both a title header part and also a header part, the title header prints on the first page and the header prints on all pages except the first page.
Worked perfectly. Thank you very much.
I spoke too soon. I'm such a putz when it comes to this stuff. I thought I had it right, but I didn't.
What I really need is step by step instructions to create a two page (print out front & back on a single sheet of paper) form letter with a title header and title footer for the first page and standard margins on the second page(back-side of same sheet).
Is there some place where such instructions appear so I don't have to bother others?
What are the top and bottom margins you need for the first page and what are the top and bottom margins you need for the second page?
Double sided printing will be a feature that may or may not be supported by your printer and isn't really a filemaker feature. If you can select it from a filemaker print dialog, great. If not, you may have to print one page and then reload the paper to print the other side.
I need a first page top margin of 1.625" (for company logo etc.) and a bottom margin of 1.375" for company slogan and logo. I already have stationary printed with the company logo at the top and slogan at the bottom, so I'm looking for the standard clearance beyond those headers and footers I've mentioned (I guess about .25" or so). To date, I haven't been able to get the title header that I entered on the layout to appear for subsequent first pages. It appears on the first page of the first letter, but then doesn't appear thereafter.
In ordert to print on both sides with my printer, I have the option to print all odd number pages, then reverse the paper and print all even number pages. That works fine and I can do that. I can only get the appropriate title header spacing on the first page of the first letter, not on subsequent first pages. I'm not doing something that should tell Filemaker that this is a two page letter and to put a title header on every odd numbered page and a standard top page margin on every second page of the letter. Am I explaining this clearing? I hope so. I really, really appreciate your interest in my problem.
You will need to print one letter at a time to get the title header to re-appear at the start of the next letter. That's probably the simplest to set up. You could write a script that loops through your set of letter records printing each one separately to avoid having to select print repeatedly.
Can you split your layout into two separate layouts--one layout for page one and one for page two?
If so, you could print the set of records for page one with your title header and then reload the paper to print the same set from the second layout--which is what you'd have to do with printing odd and even page numbers anyway.
I think two separate layouts is the way to go. I'll try it now. Thanks again.
Printing each page as a separate layout, then flipping the paper for page two worked. Thank you.
Now, is there any way to insert a pen & ink appearing signature in the appropriate place? Do I have to scan in a copy of my signature and insert it as an object?
Yes, that's basically how you'd do that. You can insert it into a container field or directly into the layout as a graphic object.
