### Title

Validating calculated fields

### Post

Using FMPro 11, I'm a beginner, using Mac Snow Leopard.

I'm trying to get users to enter numbers into 5 fields (A, B, C, D, E) and then calculate the sum of those fields (A+B+C+D+E) - which is stored as an autoentered field 'total' defined by the A+B+C+D+E calculation.

Now the total should ALWAYS be 10 - it could be 2+2+2+2+2 or 10+0+0+0+0 etc - doesn't matter which as long as the sum is 10. If I try to 'Validate' the field 'total' by 'validated by calculation' with the calculation total=10 it doesn't work - the total can be any number. If I try to validate it by being 'in range' of 9-11 or 10-10 again, it has no effect, it can be 1000 and I'm still allowed to move onto the next record. How do I make sure that my users can only enter a total of 10 without resorting to scripts?

Did you clear the "validate ony if field has been modified" check box?
