There are multiple ways to get such a "conditional value list" from the data in your chart of accounts table. You'll probably want to use a "hardwired" option where the user is not asked to specify the filtering value used to limit which values from the table appear in the value list.
There are two different examples of a "hardwired" conditional value list along with 8 more conditional value list examples to be found in: "Adventures in FileMaking #1 - Conditional Value Lists".
Phil, is there a way to build the Value List so that it can be used as a Pop-up Menu or drop down list in a data field?
I've used this example before to limit the records in a portal but I want to actually have a value list called ExpenseAccounts that can be used in a pop-up menu.
Please download the demo file. Every example there uses a value list such as those you would use with a popup menu or drop down list.
Adventure #2, on the other hand, has many examples of selecting from a list where the list is not based on a value list, but that's the second issue. This first 1 is all value lists.
