Include a field RevenueWeek which is the week number of the revenue date. Your Y Axis should have the RevenueWeek and the X axis the summary revenue field. Sort the found set by RevenueWeek. You will have one total per week.
Thank very much, that worked to be able to see the summary of each week. I'm trying to figure out how to use this method to see each year overlayed (52 weeks with 2011 and 2012 in different colours perhaps on the same chart? I thought of creating a field which is based on year and week and then using your suggestion but that wouldn't get the data on the same chart (thought it would let me see how things look). Can this method also be used to get a text (number) answer?
Again, thanks very much. One frustration out of the way!
I haven't tried it, but I suspect if you find two years then sort by week then year it will show the comparative weeks side-by-side. If not there may be other ways.
Sorry this confused me: "Can this method also be used to get a text (number) answer?"
What I mean is whether I can get the weekly totals in a way that can be exported to a spreadsheet, i.e. likely in a table format. If I can't get the data overlaid to look at the yearly comparison in FileMaker I'd like to export the data to a spreadsheet.
Have you tried the way I suggested? If it doesn't work for you you can export the data to text format, including all data or just the summary information.
Oh yes, I've tried your suggestion and it works great in a chart (haven't been successful at getting the data outside of a chart though). It's exactly what I wanted for a given period in a chart. Now I'd like to see multiple years overlaid on that same chart. Yeah, I know, I'm never satisfied ;-) I understand databases but Filemaker sometimes does things in interesting ways - the summary fields don't always work as expected (but maybe I need to change my expectation?).
"Now I'd like to see multiple years overlaid on that same chart." - did you try this?:
"if you find two years then sort by week then year it will [may] show the comparative weeks side-by-side."
