what is "best type" and "default type" for?

I checked the FileMaker Pro applescript dictionary and find that every class have "best type" and "default type" properties. Does anyone know what do they mean exactly?

What the dictionary says are "best type (type, r/o) : The best descriptor type" "default type (type, r/o) : The default descriptor type". When to use the two properties in an applescript workflow? Thanks.
