What text is this and how are you attempting to change it's color? Layout text? text in a text field? Setting color for a field on a layout while in layout mode or when editing text in a text field? or ?
Are you speaking of text inside FileMaker's fields ?
see it in the picture, I wanna change all red color to black at one time
Simply say is how to change all colors to balck in text field not in layout mode? Thank you
And what method did you attempt to use to change the color?
Is this a data field of type text or a calculation field that returns text?
Color and other style options can be set at the data level or the layout level. Styles specified at the data level will supercede styles specified at the layout level.
To change text styles at the data level, select the text in the fields while in browse mode and use the text formtting tool bar to change the color of the selected text. I this is a calculation field, it's possible to specify a color as part of the calculation, you'd need to open the definition for this calcualtion and change the calculation.
To change text styles at teh layout level, you select the field while in layout mode and specifiy the desired style in either the appearance section of the inspector or the formatting tool bar. A conditional format can also be specified that changes the color of the text so you may need to right click the field while in layout mode and select conditional formatting... to see if any such option was specified for this field.
Yeah, I have tried this method, does not work. What I have done is go to layout mode to format the field box to black color, but all red color text in the browse mode is the same. One thing I need mention is that there are many red color text in the browse mode which manually inserted by people. However, if I format the feild box in layout mode to red color, all the text in the browse mode change to red. So I dont know what is the problem, because I need everything to be black.
Styles specified at the data level will supercede styles specified at the layout level.
So changes to the style specified for the field in layout mode will not affect style changes made at the data level by formatting the text in the field while in browse mode.
There are two options depending on why text is being changed to red in the first place.
1) This auto-enter calculation:
TextFormatRemove ( self )
with the "do not replace existing value..." option cleared, will strip out all styles applied to the text by the user. It'll let them apply a text color, but it changes back to the style selected for the field when they exit. This permanently removes the color so don't use this method if there's a reason users need some of the text to be red.
2) define a calculation field as TextFormatRemove ( NameOftextFieldHere ) and place this calculation field on your layout. It won't be editable, but it will strip out all the formatting so that formatting specified at the layout level will control the appearance of the text.
I understand what you said, but could you please tell me how can I do it with steps and I did not find out any "TextFormatRemove"? Thank you very much
What do you want to do? Option 1 or 2? Do users need to be able to change the text color or do you want to prevent them from doing so? What version of FileMaker do you have?
I am using filemaker pro 11 XP, I just wanna change all colors to black no matter option 1 or 2, thank you very much for helping me sir
Open Manage | database | fields and find this field.
Double click it.
Select the auto enter tab.
Type in TextFormatRemove ( Self )
Clear the "do not replace existing value..." check box.
Click OK until you have dismissed the Manage | database window.
Now, any new record will automatically remove any text formatting applied by the user when the edit text in this field.
To strip out the formatting from your existing records:
Go to a layout based on this field's table.
Select Show All Records.
click or tab into this field.
Select Replace Field Contents from the Records menu.
Select the calculation option.
Enter TextFormatRemove ( PutNameofYourFieldHere )
Click OK to dismiss the calculation dialog.
Click OK to update the fields.
Thank you so much sir, I did, thanks thanks
Hey Friend, I have another problem about how could I export my figures out of Filemaker? I have inserted like 2000 structures into FileMaker from ChemDraw files, but now I got to export those structure into chemdraw file from Filemaker indepently, because those structures in ChemDraw are random and I need to keep them one by one in ChemDraw again. And I am able to save those figures in PDF but not in ChemDraw. but I dont know how to do it, could you please tell me how? Thank you so much.
You have options.
1) If you insert the files with the "store a reference" option selected, the drawings will remain as individual files. This may eliminate the need to export the files. With this approach, you may want to work out a file naming convention that helps you match drawing files to their FileMaker records. Export Field Contents (see option 2) can be used to move an inserted file from one location to another and rename the file as part of the export.
2) Export field contents can export the file in a container field to the location you specify with the file name you specify. This can be done from a script where a variable is used to store a unique file path (Location and file name) that is then used in a looping script to export files from all the records in your current found set. This will not work, if you inserted the files as objects. There is no method that I know of for exporting the files in a batch when they are inserted as an object. (Insert Object use OLE technology only available in windows systems. It is not supported in FileMaker 12.)
