40 percent should be entered/stored as 0.40 not 40. The data formatting then displays that as 40%.
Yes, I did notice that and technically, I am sure that is the correct way to express a percentage.... but the form I am creating is for the accounting folks who use Excel and for what ever reason Excel can display 40% and 4.5% and it seems FileMaker should too. I dont want to have to explain to the user... put .40 for 40% and .045 for 4.5%. It seems counter intuitive.
Is there any way to simply have it use 40% and 4.5%.
If you really want to you can define the % character as the trailing currency.
Or you can set up an auto-enter calculation that divides the value entered by 100. This has to be done carefully, however, or you can end up with .02% instead of 2%.
