Ye Olde Container calculation--how we did some conditional formatting before conditional formatting and alternating background colors were possible--can do this.
Define a global container field, gHighlight, and insert or paste a colored rectangle into it. Dimensions and proportions aren't important. I would just draw a rectangle in layout mode copy it to the clipboard, switch to browse mode and paste it into the field.
Define a calculation field with container as it's return type.
If ( IsEmpty ( table::datefield ) ; table::gHighlight ; "" )
Make your date field transparent and place this new calculation field behind it. Specify graphic formatting options so the rectangle fills the field and doesn't have to maintain proportions.
Thanks for responding!
For some reason when I do that, I end up with a zero in the field, instead of anything highlighted. Any suggestions?
Did you select "container" as the calculation field's return type in the drop down in lower left corner of the specify calculation dialog?
no, that was my problem, but I figured it out and got it working. Now, however, I am trying to do the same thing in another layout and it is remaining highlighted even after an amount is entered into the field. I'll have to keep working on this...
Check your calculation, something isn't set up correctly.
